When a pump starts making an unusual noise, it’s important to investigate before further damage occurs.
Our ITS Servicing & Maintenance team recently attended a scheduled routine site visit at a canning production facility to assess an Alfa Laval LKH-90 pump that had been making a strange noise during operation.
The team removed the front cover to gain a better view of the pump’s internal components and check for any foreign objects that could be causing wear or damage.
On inspection, it was identified that the impeller had made contact with the front casing, highlighting the need for a more detailed assessment to determine the cause and extent of the damage.
💡 Our solution: The pump will be brought in-house for a more thorough assessment. Once the issue has been resolved, we can return the pump to our base for the necessary repair work to get it back to reliable working condition.
Unusual pump noises should never be ignored. Incorrect set-up or user error can contribute to internal component contact and premature wear. Ensuring pumps are installed, configured and operated correctly can help reduce the risk of damage, minimise unplanned downtime and extend equipment service life.
