When filtration goes wrong, the impact is felt everywhere: product quality, downtime, maintenance costs and compliance risk. That’s why selecting the right liquid filter from the start matters.
HiFlux Filtration always comes back to a few key fundamentals:
✔️ Know your liquid – viscosity and temperature changes can make or break filtration performance.
✔️ Understand the solids – particle size, loading and whether they’re soft or abrasive all matter.
✔️ Define “clean enough” – filtration is about meeting the required purity, not over-engineering.
✔️ Flow matters – correct flow rates ensure the right filter type and size for stable operation.
✔️ Maintenance strategy – self-cleaning vs manual cleaning impacts safety, downtime and waste handling.
✔️ Rules & ROI – compliance with food, pharma or ATEX standards is essential, but so is lifetime cost, not just purchase price.
The best filtration solutions balance process protection, operational efficiency and long-term value. That’s where experience, application knowledge and the right technology come together.
If you’re reviewing your filtration setup or planning a new process, it’s worth getting these basics right from day one. Contact ITS, our team are happy to help📞 01675 620914 | 📧sales@industrialtradingsolutions.com

Today, we turn our attention to high-quality sensor technology in soy sauce production. Soy sauce is a complex product, and achieving consistent taste demands careful monitoring of multiple fermentation stages, salt content, sugars, and flavourings.
🔎In this case study, we dive into a better understanding of how Anderson-Negele sensors delivered maximum reliability in complex fermentation processes; for NOCA TECH, a specialist in soy sauce manufacturing, who were facing the challenge of maintaining exceptional quality while reducing maintenance costs and plant downtimes.
🔹How did NOCA TECH take their soy sauce production to the next level?
🔬The solution:Anderson-Negele sensors were implemented to provide automatic inline process measurement. These sensors are offered:
Chloridion resistance for long-lasting operation in salty environments
Accurate, colour-independent turbidity measurement via the ITM-4 sensor to monitor fermentation progress
Early warning alarms if turbidity deviates from set parameters, ensuring consistency in taste and quality
Today, we are presenting a real-world comparison between healthy pump rotors and worn rotors pulled from a recent assessment conducted by our ITS Servicing and Maintenance team.
When your rotors start showing:
Deep scoring
Excessive wear
Distorted edges
Surface pitting
…it’s a sign your pump is working harder than it should, and that downtime could be just around the corner.
👀 What they should look like:
Smooth, uniform, and within specification. No heavy wear lines. No gouging. No tapering.
⚠️ When it’s time to book an assessment:
If you’re noticing unusual noise, reduced flow, inconsistent pressure, or visible rotor wear, it’s time to schedule a service visit. Worn components don’t just affect performance; they can lead to seal failures, unexpected shutdowns, and costly production interruptions.
🛠️ Stay ahead of breakdowns
ITS uses genuine pump components to ensure reliability, longevity, and optimal performance. Keeping on top of component condition is far cheaper than dealing with unplanned downtime.

The Autumn Budget 2025 has introduced a range of changes that many manufacturers will feel, from upward pressure on wage bills to a more challenging economic environment that could squeeze margins. UK manufacturing braces for potential cost rises and investment freezes. Now is the time to look at leaner, more efficient operations. At ITS, we believe that smart investment in hygienic processing equipment – plus the right servicing strategy – can not only protect product quality but also deliver long-term cost savings and resilience.
Why Cost Pressures Are Ramping Up
The Budget puts pressure on businesses to absorb increased costs, raising concerns across the manufacturing sector.
At the same time, many manufacturers are wary of committing to large capital expenditure in times of economic uncertainty.
In this climate, reducing operational costs, improving efficiency and avoiding unplanned downtime becomes critical more than ever.
Where ITS Equipment and Services Deliver Savings
1. Energy Efficiency through Modern Pumps, Heat Exchangers & Instrumentation
Outdated or inefficient equipment often consumes excess energy – a hidden drain on operating costs. Upgrading to energy-efficient pumps, properly sized heat exchangers, and optimised flow/temperature instrumentation can significantly reduce energy usage
Moreover, regular maintenance and energy-efficient servicing contribute to long-term reliability and reduce unnecessary waste.
For example: installing variable-speed drives on pumps or optimising heat exchanger cycles can cut energy costs while maintaining production throughput – a win for both the bottom line and sustainability goals.
2. Reduced Downtime & Maintenance Costs with Proactive Servicing
Hygienic processing plants often run under strict hygiene and regulatory regimes – breakdowns or contamination events can be costly, both in repairs and lost production. By offering comprehensive servicing, calibration, cleaning (including CIP-capable systems), and predictive maintenance regimes, ITS helps manufacturers avoid unexpected downtime. Regular cleaning and maintenance not only protect product integrity but also extend the life of expensive equipment – reducing the frequency (and cost) of major overhauls or replacements.
3. Better Return on Investment (ROI) via Longer Equipment Life and Lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
While the idea of new capital investment can feel risky in uncertain times, investing in high-quality hygienic equipment often pays off over the long haul. Modern, robust equipment tends to have longer service intervals, lower failure rates, and more consistent performance – reducing both direct maintenance costs and indirect costs like wasted production or product rejects. Especially in sectors like food & beverage, dairy, brewery, pharmaceutical or home-care – where quality control and hygiene are non-negotiable – the savings from fewer rejects, less rework, and stable throughput can be substantial.
4. Process Optimisation & Compliance – Minimising Risk-Related Costs
Hygienic processing is not just about moving liquids: it’s about ensuring consistent temperature, flow, purity, and sterility (where required). ITS’s instrumentation, valves, filtration and ducting solutions help manufacturers stay compliant with hygiene, safety and regulatory standards – reducing the risk of contamination events, product recalls, fines, or shutdowns. By preventing contamination and process variability, the cost (and reputational damage) of non-compliance is avoided. This kind of “insurance through quality engineering” becomes especially valuable when operating margins are squeezed.
5. Supporting Scalability and Flexibility – Future-Proofing Operations
In a challenging fiscal environment, manufacturers may hesitate to invest in large, bespoke systems. ITS’s modular hygienic equipment solutions give flexibility: facilities can upgrade or expand capacity more easily as demand evolves – without disrupting production or incurring high upfront costs. This modular approach supports phased investment: companies can start with essential items (pumps, valves, instrumentation), test ROI, then scale as justified – reducing financial risk while still improving efficiency and reliability.
Why Now Is the Right Time
With increased pressure on operating costs and uncertainty about future tax and cost burdens, manufacturers need ways to reduce ongoing costs and improve resilience.
Investing in efficient, hygienic processing equipment and reliable servicing doesn’t just help meet today’s compliance and hygiene standards – it builds a foundation for lower total cost of ownership over the years, which is more sustainable than short-term cost-cutting.
For companies operating in high-risk sectors (food, dairy, brewery, pharma, home care), the long-term cost of a production stoppage or contamination event can far outweigh the investment in upgraded equipment.
What ITS Offers to Help
A portfolio of hygienic-grade valves, pumps, heat exchangers, filtration and instrumentation suitable for food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical and home-care processing.
Modular, scalable solutions that can be phased in as part of planned cap-ex or maintenance budgets.
Servicing, cleaning (including CIP-compatible systems), calibration and predictive maintenance – ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
Expert guidance to help clients select appropriate equipment, optimise plant layout/flow, and implement hygiene-compliant processes.
Support in reducing energy consumption, minimising waste, and lowering long-term operating costs.
💡Conclusion – Turning Budget Pressure into Strategic Opportunity
While the Autumn Budget 2025 may tighten financial conditions for many manufacturers, it also underscores a critical truth: firms that invest in efficiency, reliability and quality today are better positioned to weather economic pressure tomorrow. With the right hygienic processing equipment and a partner like ITS, companies can not only protect production quality and regulatory compliance – they can also reduce energy and maintenance costs, extend equipment life, and avoid costly disruption.
In effect, ITS’s offering becomes not just a supplier service – but a strategic shield against rising operating costs and economic uncertainty. For manufacturers in food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, or home-care sectors, that’s a compelling value proposition.

Vak Kimsa’s agitators are known for delivering reliable, efficient mixing across food, beverage, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and other hygienic industries. To ensure every agitator performs flawlessly once installed in a customer’s tank, Vak Kimsa uses Ansys Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate exactly how the agitator will behave in real operating conditions.
Using Ansys CFD, Vak Kimsa can analyse the complete flow dynamics inside the tank –from velocity patterns and turbulence to shear distribution, solids suspension, stratification risks, and temperature gradients. This allows their engineers to visualise how the agitator interacts with the tank’s geometry, baffles, product viscosity, and filling levels. The result is a perfectly tuned design that achieves faster mixing, improved homogeneity, and greater energy efficiency.
For customers, this means every Vak Kimsa agitator has already undergone virtual performance testing tailored to the actual tank it will be installed in. Potential issues such as dead zones, insufficient circulation, vortexing, or uneven shear are identified and resolved before the agitator is manufactured. This reduces commissioning time, prevents costly redesigns, and ensures the mixer delivers optimal performance from day one.
In hygienic processing, CFD provides an additional advantage: it helps Vak Kimsa evaluate cleanability. By simulating how CIP fluids circulate around the tank and across critical surfaces, they can eliminate areas where residue might accumulate, ensuring the agitator supports full and effective cleaning. This strengthens hygiene compliance, reduces contamination risk, and improves product safety.
By combining decades of mixing expertise with the precision of Ansys Fluid Dynamics, Vak Kimsa delivers agitators that are not only efficient and robust but also meticulously engineered for hygienic environments. Customers benefit from better product quality, reduced waste, more efficient processing, and confidence that their mixing system has been optimised before it even reaches the factory floor.

In hygienic processing, keeping products and cleaning media completely separate is non-negotiable. That’s exactly what Mixproof (double-seat) valves do: they allow two fluids to flow through the same valve cluster while ensuring zero cross-contamination, thanks to an independent leakage chamber between the seats.
Process engineers rely on them for:
Safe product and CIP separation
Faster changeovers
Reduced downtime
Improved cleanability and system efficiency
Compact, simplified routing compared with traditional valve blocks
Why Choose Alfa Laval Over Cheaper Alternatives?
Proven hygienic security
Alfa Laval’s double-seat design and robust seal geometry greatly reduce the risk of contamination. The true zero-leakage design ensures no product leaks during actuation. The leakage chamber and detection system are built for reliability, not just regulatory compliance.
Superior cleanability
CIP-optimised internals, minimal dead zones, top-loaded maintenance and optional Spiral Clean systems make cleaning cycles shorter and more effective.
Lower lifetime cost
While the upfront cost is higher, one Alfa Laval Mixproof valve often replaces two or more conventional valves. Fewer parts, fewer actuators, less service time, and fewer failures mean lower total cost of ownership.
Reliability under pressure
High-grade materials, precise manufacturing tolerances, and global spares availability ensure processes stay stable and predictable – something cheaper alternatives rarely deliver.
💡 Bottom line for engineers
If uptime, hygiene, maintainability, and long-term process efficiency matter, Alfa Laval Mixproof valves outperform budget brands every time. They’re not just an expense – they’re an investment in process security.
⭐ Another Customer Success Story: A Compact and Automated Alfa Laval Manifold Skid Solution
When a customer needed a smarter way to manage waste product storage before third-party collection, they approached ITS for support. Their process required a fully automated and flexible solution that could direct different waste streams to multiple storage areas based on both product type and available capacity. With five infeed lines feeding into six storage tanks, the system also needed strong protection to ensure multiple streams could run at the same time without any risk of mixing, which was essential for meeting third-party collection requirements.
There was only one challenge. Space on site was tight, so the entire setup needed to fit into a compact footprint.
💡This is where ITS stepped in. We supplied a Mixproof valve matrix and worked closely with the customer from the early design phase right through to order. With support from Alfa Laval, we delivered a fully automated prefabricated valve manifold skid designed specifically for their needs. Even with the space restrictions, we engineered a layout that was both compact and efficient.
Our team handled all mechanical works, including orbital welding of the valve cluster, fabrication of the support frame with drip tray, and the final mounting of the complete assembly. The outcome was a reliable, space-efficient and hygienic automated solution that gives the customer complete control over their waste streams, with confidence and compliance built in.
