The Bornemann SLH 4G Twin Screw Pump is an advanced piece of machinery designed for efficient, hygienic pumping of various liquids, including those with high viscosities or containing solids. Here’s a detailed look at how it works:

Components and Design

Twin Screws: The pump features two intermeshing screws, also known as rotors. These screws are the core components and are precisely machined to ensure smooth operation.

Pump Casing: The screws are housed in a robust pump casing that forms the outer body of the pump. This casing is designed to handle high pressures and is often made from stainless steel to ensure hygienic processing and durability.

Timing Gears: External timing gears synchronise the rotation of the screws, ensuring they do not touch each other or the casing. This prevents wear and tear and allows the pump to handle abrasive materials.

Seal System: The pump includes a sophisticated seal system to prevent leakage and maintain hygiene standards. Seals are typically mechanical and can be single or double depending on the application.

Working Principle

Rotation and Fluid Movement: When the pump operates, the timing gears ensure the twin screws rotate in opposite directions. As the screws rotate, they create a series of moving cavities.

Suction Side: On the suction side of the pump, the rotation of the screws creates a vacuum. This vacuum draws the liquid into the cavities formed between the screws and the pump casing.

Conveyance: As the screws continue to rotate, the cavities move along the length of the screws. The liquid trapped in these cavities is conveyed smoothly from the suction side to the discharge side of the pump.

Discharge Side: Once the cavities reach the discharge side, the liquid is expelled under pressure. The continuous rotation of the screws ensures a steady flow of liquid, making the pump suitable for continuous operation.

Key Features

Non-Pulsating Flow: The design of the twin screws ensures a smooth, non-pulsating flow, which is crucial for processes requiring consistent delivery of liquid.

Handling Viscous and Solid-Laden Liquids: The pump can handle a wide range of viscosities and even liquids containing solids, thanks to the non-contact design of the screws.

Hygienic Design: The SLH 4G is designed to meet stringent hygienic standards, making it ideal for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and other industries requiring cleanliness.

Versatility: It can be used for both low and high-viscosity fluids, providing flexibility for various industrial applications.

Efficiency: The pump is highly efficient, reducing energy consumption and operational costs.

The Bornemann SLH 4G Twin Screw Pump utilises the coordinated rotation of twin screws to create a vacuum that draws in liquid, conveys it through the pump, and expels it at a steady, controlled rate. Its design ensures hygienic operation, versatility, and efficiency, making it a reliable choice for various industrial applications. Sampling valves play a crucial role in the brewery process for several reasons, and on Beer Day Britain 2024, we thought it was worth celebrating the unsung heroes behind our perfect pints!

Quality Control: Sampling valves allow brewers to draw small samples of the beer at various stages of production without contaminating the entire batch. This enables consistent monitoring of the product’s quality, flavour, and characteristics to ensure it meets the desired standards. Thanks to these valves, every glass we raise today is a testament to meticulous quality control.

Consistency: By regularly sampling the brew, brewers can ensure that each batch tastes the same. This consistency is vital for maintaining brand reputation and customer satisfaction, as beer enthusiasts expect the same flavour profile every time they purchase their favourite brew.

Fermentation Monitoring: During fermentation, it’s important to track the progress of yeast activity, sugar levels, and alcohol content. Sampling valves make it easier to obtain these measurements accurately without exposing the beer to oxygen, which could spoil the batch. This careful monitoring ensures that every beer is perfectly fermented.

Microbial Testing: Ensuring the beer is free from unwanted microorganisms is essential for safety and taste. Sampling valves allow for aseptic sampling, which helps in conducting microbiological tests to detect any potential contaminants early in the process.

Process Optimisation: By sampling at various stages, brewers can fine-tune their processes. This might include adjusting temperatures, timing, and ingredients to optimise the brewing process and improve the final product’s quality. Every pint enjoyed on Beer Day Britain benefits from this fine-tuning, resulting in a superior drinking experience!

Troubleshooting: If there’s an issue with the brew, such as off-flavours or unexpected changes in consistency, sampling valves provide a straightforward method to take samples for analysis, helping to identify and address the problem swiftly. This means that any hiccup is promptly addressed, ensuring our beer is always top-notch.

Regulatory Compliance: In many regions, breweries must comply with strict regulations regarding the quality and safety of their products. Regular sampling helps ensure that all regulatory standards are met, providing documentation that the brewery follows best practices.

So, as we raise our glasses and say cheers on this Beer Day Britain 2024, let’s give a nod to the humble sampling valves. They ensure that every pint is a perfect reflection of the brewer’s craft, dedication, and commitment to quality. Cheers to great beer, expertly sampled and enjoyed by all!

Product viscosity significantly impacts filtration processes, including those involving HiFlux filters. Here are some key points to consider:

👉 Flow Rate and Pressure Drop

Fluids with higher viscosity resist flow more than low-viscosity fluids, leading to a slower filtration rate. The increased resistance requires higher pressure to maintain a constant flow rate through the filter. Lower-viscosity fluids flow more easily through filters, allowing for higher flow rates with less pressure.

👉 Filter Fouling and Efficiency

Thick fluids can lead to quicker fouling of the filter medium as particles are less likely to be carried away by the flow. This results in a reduced filtration efficiency and more frequent cleaning or replacement of the filter. Lower-viscosity fluids can transport particles more efficiently through the filter medium, potentially reducing fouling and extending filter life.

👉 Pore Size and Permeability

High Viscosity Fluids require filters with larger pore sizes or more permeable materials to achieve a reasonable flow rate. However, larger pores might compromise the filtration quality. Low Viscosity Fluids can be effectively filtered through finer pores, achieving higher filtration precision without significant pressure drop.

👉 Temperature Control

Since viscosity is temperature-dependent, maintaining optimal temperature is crucial. Higher temperatures typically reduce viscosity, improving flow rate and filtration efficiency.

👉 Filter Selection and Design

The filter material must be compatible with the fluid’s viscosity to avoid degradation or reduced performance. For high-viscosity products, specialised filters like those from HiFlux Filtration incorporate advanced materials or designs to handle increased pressure and fouling potential.

👉 HiFlux Filters are designed to manage various fluid viscosities by:

  1. Using durable, high-permeability materials that maintain structural integrity under high-pressure conditions.
  2. Implementing unique structural features to enhance flow dynamics and reduce fouling, even with high-viscosity fluids.

The viscosity of a product directly influences the efficiency, pressure requirements, and maintenance frequency of filtration processes. For high-viscosity fluids, specialised solutions like those from HiFlux Filtration A/S can optimise performance by addressing the specific challenges posed by increased resistance and fouling.
