Cleanliness, reliability, a diverse range of processes, and efficiency are all vital to success if you’re working with dairy products. At every stage of the dairy produce life cycle, you’ll want to make sure your production line is flowing and churning at peak efficiency to create excellent products, prevent bacterial build-ups, and optimise output. Delivering safe, smooth, tasty milk, cheese, yoghurt, ice cream, and butter depends on it.
Hygienic, specially-designed food and drink pumps are one great way to ensure you make excellent milk products. Stainless-steel interiors and wash-cycle compatibility ensure that your machines stay safe and effective. Specialised liquid pumps resist high temperatures and fast flows, too – vital when working with intense processes such as automatic pasteurisation.
Centrifugal Pumps
For moving large amounts of material between tanks or to bottling, you’ll want to use a centrifugal turbine pump. A large, central revolving shaft helps prevent accumulations of material that might cause health risks. Our larger Alfa Laval LKH models come recommended due to their CIP (Clean-in-Place) system compatibility and UltraPure guaranteed standards of cleanliness.
They’re easy to clean, too. Each pump is compatible with forceful, thorough heated flush-through water and detergent cycles. They can also process masses of liquid passing quickly at well above boiling point (max 140° centigrade) – ideal for moving and sanitising raw dairy products.
Rotary Lobe Pumps
For moving smaller amounts of dairy along pipelines and between processes safely, try using rotary lobe pumps. Alfa Laval’s OptiLobe and SRU stainless steel interior models are great for post-raw dairy lines.
The low-shear, low-contact design of the internal ‘lobes’ helps keep thick liquids moving gently yet firmly in constantly flowing motion. This helps keep units sanitary and free of jams and clogs. The high levels of semi-solid push they provide also help minimise downtime – excellent for working with yoghurt and cheese.
As they’re an inline pump, they’re compatible with water-based cleaning cycles and CIP strategies. More advanced rotary lobe models (i.e. Alfa Laval SX series) can resist both high and low temperatures, too, giving you greater flexibility with the finished dairy products you make.
